POSITION: Mobile Market Coordinator
Duration: For immediate hire
Hours: 30 hours/week, with the potential to increase
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Bulb is a nonprofit and grassroots social justice organization focused on filling gaps in access to fresh produce for those living in underserved communities. We believe nutrient-rich whole foods can provide food security and improve community health outcomes. Our mobile farmers markets bring fresh fruits and vegetables directly to food-insecure neighborhoods, offering households access to fresh food in a barrier-free environment in an effort to build a healthier, more resilient Charlotte.
As the Mobile Market Coordinator, you will work closely with the Operations Manager and Volunteer Coordinator to strategize and coordinate the day-to-day operations of our mobile market program. This role is ideal for someone passionate about food access, community engagement and innovative solutions to serve diverse populations.
The Bulb looks for team members who are proactive self-starters who work well independently, as well as collaboratively. Please note that this is a physically demanding job requiring the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
This position reports to the Operations & Finance Director.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the mobile market operations; uphold strong customer service to residents and community partners and ensure market supplies are stocked and organized
Partner with the Volunteer Coordinator on training volunteers to ensure adherence to The Bulb’s standards of service and best practices
Align market programming with partner MOUs (Memorandum of Understanding) and The Bulb’s standards of service
Collaborate with the Operations Manager to maintain the mobile market schedule
Collect and compile post-market summaries from the market leads
Ensure proper data collection for each market through a weekly review and report to the Operations & Finance Director
Oversee the planning, development and execution of bi-annual surveys
Assist with the review of survey data to understand the demographics of the different markets, gather feedback and inform decisions for the market program
Raise awareness of The Bulb and its mobile markets in the communities we serve through marketing initiatives, targeted outreach and on-the-ground efforts
Work with the Operations Manager to manage the text messaging platform (MailChimp) and campaigns for mobile market guests
Develop new and existing relationships with like-minded community organizations with the goal of partnering to enhance market offerings
Coordinate with partners to schedule complimentary services at our markets; engage the Operations team for guidance
Ensure the market host agency is properly notified of supplemental activities and that The Bulb and its partners adhere to site compliance
Collaborate with the Operations & Finance Director on the cadence, creation and distribution of nutrition education materials to be distributed at the markets
FOOD RESCUE & SORTING
Pick up from grocery partners, as well as locally-grown produce from farm partners
Sort rescue from grocery partners for quality/freshness – repackage items that are still good and compost (on-site) what is past expiration
Using the on-site scale, weigh and track rescue and compost
Drop off non-market food at approved food-access partner locations
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the full team to keep the Barn, cooler, and company vehicles organized and clean; inclusive of taking out trash, compost, and recycling, sanitizing surfaces, washing tablecloths, and rinsing out bins
Represent The Bulb at different community, corporate and fundraising events
Keep detailed track of hours for timely timesheet submission, ensure hours are kept at or below 60 hours per pay period unless the Executive Director authorizes explicit permission, and communicate with the Operations & Finance Director about any troubles or concerns around hours
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors or Associates Degree
2+ year(s) of professional work experience
Proactive, positive, problem-solving and collaborative attitude
Strong communication and time management skills
Outgoing personality, a strong public speaker
Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, task shift effectively, and stay organized
Proficiency in Google Suite
Experience in Canva
Experience with data collection and management
Knowledge of AirTable or similar databases (preferred, not required)
Ability to lift up to 50lbs
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Access to reliable transportation and technology (cell phone, computer or tablet)
Spanish language fluency (strongly preferred, not required)
